Acanthusleaf Designs
Acanthus leaves are the decorative swirling leaf motifs found
in art from classical times through the present. Those carved leaves on your
grandmother's big gilded mirror are acanthus leaves. The decorative leafy
borders of medieval manuscripts are acanthus leaves. The background art of
this website is acanthus leaves. They bear no real resemblance to the original
acanthus plant, which is native to
Laurie Cavanaugh is a California-born jeweler who loves classic
lines and historic motifs. She took her first bench jewelry class a the Craft Center at UC Davis while getting her BA in Medieval Studies and was hooked. Ten years
later she finally decided to make the leap into full-time jewelry making,
so she went to the Revere
Academy for the Jewelry Technician Intensive course. Laurie has a Jewelry
Technician diploma and is a JA Certified Bench Jeweler Technician. Laurie
is a participant in the Orchid jewelers’
email list. She lives in
Laurie has been involved in a history group called the Society for Creative Anachronism for over twenty years (gulp!). She is a member of the Order fo the Laurel and has been a scribe, illuminator, fighter, and all-around artsy type. Her name within the Society is Morgan Athenry.
